Three Sports T-Shirt Quilts at Once
My normal request for a t-shirt quilt is for one quilt, often a graduation gift. Sometimes I get another request later for a second quilt, usually for a sibling. However when Mason called, he wanted three t-shirt quilts made, one right after the other. When he delivered the t-shirts which were predominately sports shorts, he had already sorted them for each particular quilt.
He left the designing up to me, so I proceeded to make entirely different designs for each quilt. The sports t-shirt quilt above was the family quilt, containing various t-shirts from all of the kids together in one quilt. Since there was a great variety of t-shirts of all sizes, the ‘hodge-podge’ design worked very well. I was able to fit a large number of logos onto a quilt that wasn’t too large to be of use.
Mason’s Soccer Quilt
Mason’s collection of soccer t-shirts were beautiful, mainly colored black, white, red and green. I gathered all the black logos in the middle to show off them off in a unique way, framed by a collection of colorful blocks. By sprinkling the many smaller logos around the borders, I was able to add a touch of interest to the outer border.
T-shirts like this just should not lay folded in a box somewhere in an attic or a garage. They cry out to be displayed in a quilt!
Third Quilt displaying College T-Shirts belonging to Mason and his Wife
Emboldened by my center of all black t-shirts in the Soccer Quilt, I made a similar display of like backgrounds (white in this case) in the quilt above. For variety, I fashioned a diamond shaped pattern with dots of yellow and forest green. This was a large quilt, the first one I’ve made with this unique ‘almost all the same color’ pattern.
Mason was very pleased with each quilt. Since these quilts were made during the Covid-19 pandemic, he opened them up in my front yard to look at them as best he could. I usually have my customers view their quilts up on my design wall, but we all have learned to adapt during these strange times.
Above is the label Mason chose for the kid’s sports t-shirt quilt. According to Mason, this label and the one shown below are quotes from soccer coaches.
Below is the label for the College T-Shirt Quilt, which stands for Notre Dame and the years Mason and his wife attended.
This label appears as part of the quilt, whereas the other two labels were placed at the bottom of the quilts. In the picture above, a lovely gray/cream variegated backing peaks out from under the quilt.
