A few years ago I had a client that loved monkeys. She already had many items depicting monkeys and thought she’d like a quilted wall hanging, similar to a wall hanging she already had (see below).
After discussing what she wanted, I made the appliqued wall hanging at the top of the blog. The design is my own, following her wall hanging in many respects, but of course adding a few more monkeys.
In the lower left hand corner I added the Chinese character for “Monkey”, copying the characters in the client’s wall hanging.
Above is a closeup of the upper third of the quilt. Notice a flower in the upper right-hand corner. My client asked if I could substitute more monkeys in that corner, which I did. (See completed quilt at the top.)
Although there was a pieced border, the bulk of this quilt was appliqued, with satin stitched edges.
