Memory Quilts

Anytime a quilt is made of collections – of clothes such as t-shirts or ties, of earned badges or saved baby clothes, or of photos – or to commemorate an event such as a birth or a wedding it is considered a memory quilt. Memory quilts serve not only to remember but also can become an heirloom to pass down through generations.

Memory Quilt Made from Knits Mom Used to Make Our Clothes

One example is this Memory Quilt made entirely from a collection of cotton knits my customer’s mother had used to make clothes for her kids back in the ’70′s. With all the available stabilizers today, it is easy to work with knits – as you can see by this very cheerful memory quilt. This quilt will be passed down to generations, who may someday marvel at the materials used, just as we do today when we see quilts made out of flour sacks.

To give you some ideas for yourself or as gifts, look through the memory pages and see if you might have something you’d like to have made into a quilt – pictures, collections, or clothes.  You will see examples of the following:

  • Wedding Quilts
  • Wedding Gifts
  • T-Shirt Collections Quilts
  • Tie Collection Quilts
  • Scout Badge Quilts
