By |June 9th, 2011|Memorial or Bereavement Quilts, Traditional Quilts|

Yesterday’s blog pictured the Contemporary Log Cabin Quilt made for Luke out of his dad’s clothes. Above is the second quilt I made for Luke that fits the twin bed he has now, at age nine. This one is also made from his dad’s shirts, with one of the inner […]

Dancing Lady Quilt

Recently I designed and constructed The Forest Quilt to honor a beautiful lady – Gloria (see previous blogs). That quilt was made for her grown son.  Next I designed and constructed a second quilt for the daughter, who told me her mother loved to dance. I wanted a dance theme but also one that would honor the spirit of the lady.

For this quilt, I used a semi-traditional background made up of blocks which were 9 inches wide and 3 inches […]

Best Quilt I Ever Made? Forest Quilt and Others

By |April 29th, 2011|Appliqued Quilts, Memorial or Bereavement Quilts, Paper Pieced Quilts, Pictorial Quilts, Quilting Questions, Unusual Quilts|

In my last two posts, I written about how I made this quilt. The man who commissioned them asked me, rather rhetorically, “I’ll bet this is the best quilt you’ve ever made.” I’m not sure what answer I mumbled, but I did know that I had reached another pinnacle, even though my hold on it might be somewhat precarious. […]

Making a Forest Quilt – Part Two

By |April 26th, 2011|Appliqued Quilts, Memorial or Bereavement Quilts, Paper Pieced Quilts, Pictorial Quilts, T-Shirt Quilts|

In yesterday’s blog I explained how I started my Forest Quilt.

I also showed this picture of the schematic I drew for the design – it looks like a “Paint by Numbers” sketch. You can see that a chunk of it is missing. I cut out section by section to use the wax paper as templates. Ruth McDowell says start at the top, but […]

Making a Forest Quilt – Part One

By |April 25th, 2011|Appliqued Quilts, Memorial or Bereavement Quilts, Paper Pieced Quilts, Pictorial Quilts, T-Shirt Quilts|

Today I delivered two quilts to a family who had trusted me with lots of beautiful clothes belonging to a wonderful lady who died just last October. Both quilts were made entirely from these clothes (with the exception of the borders and the backing.) I am very happy to say that they were very pleased with them. I’ve been wanting to talk about these quilts on my blog, but felt it best to wait until the quilts were in the hands of the owners.

Lined up on my longarm machine you can see the clothes that I had to work with. I had discussed what the themes should be […]

Bereavement T-Shirt Quilt

One of the first bereavement quilts I made was a Christmas gift from a mother to her 40-year old daughter. The daughter Angie had lost her beloved father four years before and Deb her mother […]

Celebrating 100-Year Old Grandma

By |March 25th, 2011|Memorial or Bereavement Quilts|

A Vancouver client came to me not long before Christmas a few years ago to inquire about a sports quilt.  She decided not to make the sports quilt, but when she saw that I made bereavement quilts she decided to have me make three Christmas gifts for relatives instead. Her beloved grandmother had just died after having reached the age of 100. She brought me a load of her […]

What I Did With Her Clothes

Bereavement Quilt pictorial

About five months after I started Rhino Quilting I was asked if I wanted to make a quilt for a lady whose daughter was murdered. The mother wanted a quilt made out of the daughter’s clothes. The daughter (I will call her Karin) was in her thirties, had moved to Alaska with her job, and was thriving in her career. […]

What Do I Do With Her Clothes?

Two and a half years ago, I received a package of clothes from a customer who wanted me to make a quilt using these clothes. […]
