About Rhino Quilting

Rosie Rhine custom quilterMy name is Rosie Rhine and I live and work out of my home in Vancouver, Washington. I’ve been quilting since 1973 when I made my first quilt, a log cabin quilt made from material saved from making my four little boys’ shirts, each piece cut out the old fashioned way – with scissors. I gave that memorable quilt to my oldest son, then aged 15, who gave it to his girlfriend. Unfortunately the relationship didn’t last and that quilt has never been seen again! Only recently have I forgiven my son.  Since then I’ve graduated to more sophisticated tools such a longarm quilting machine which allows greater range and flexibility in quilting. I’ve built a business making quilts for others. They of course are free to give these quilts to anyone they like.

Specialization: Bereavement Quilts

Longarm quilting machineMaking bereavement quilts and memory quilts has become my specialty. I’m particularly fond of making memory quilts, quilts which honor a living person on a special occasion such as an anniversary or bereavement quilts which capture the spirit of a special loved one now gone. Such quilts which are often made from the clothes of the loved one, can be a unique treasure and a valuable aid in healing.

Traditional Plus Contemporary

The art of quilt making has exploded in the last decade. So many new techniques and styles have been introduced that it is hard to keep up with them. I seem to have found my niche, however, spanning the gap between traditional and contemporary, often incorporating a bit of both, whether I am working on a bereavement quilt or custom designing a quilt.

Commissioning a Quilt

When you commission me to make a quilt, I can work with you on color and design, make something definite you already have in mind – or you can let me loose and be surprised! Either way, I guarantee you will be satisfied with the end product.

Dynamic Colors

I love to experiment with patterns, styles and techniques, but my passion is using dynamic colors in my quilts – whether for a baby or an adult. Young children are as excited by color as I am. Some examples of particularly colorful baby quilts are displayed below.

Vibrant color adds excitement and drama to quilts, changing a tried and true pattern into something spectacular.
